Hyperpigmentation for Face Home Remedy
Human skin color depends on the pigment called melanin. The increase in production of melanin cause appearance of spots of the body. These spots may be dark or light. Appearance of darker spots on face and other sun exposed areas is called hyperpigmentation. Appearance of light-colored spots on the face and other areas is called hypopigmentation. Hyperpigmentation is more prone in hotter areas of Asia, Africa, and Mediterranean region.

The most common environmental causes of pigmentation is overexposure to heat and ultraviolet radiations of sun. The excess of heat disturbs the melanin producing cells called melanocytes which results in hyperpigmentation. UV radiations and thermal radiations also disturb the natural production of melanin pigment causing dark spots, blemishes, freckles and pigmentation of the body.
Injury also causes hyperpigmentation. Due to injury, small or big wounds occur. They heal slowly. Sometimes slight inflammation is left in the wounds. This inflamed area can become dark with time and lead to hyperpigmentation.
The side effects of certain medicines also cause blemishes and dark spots on the face and other areas.
Extreme emotional stress also leads to excess production of melanin in the body.
Hyperpigmentation Treatment:
Every disease can be diagnosed by medical sciences. Hyperpigmentation also has many diagnosis. They are laser treatment, bleaching, physical exfoliation, chemical peels and many home remedies which can check hyperpigmentation. However, laser treatment is very expensive and does not suits every one. Sometimes laser treatment is very risky. Bleaching creams are effective but some take a lot of time to get the positive results.
Hyperpigmentation Home remedies
Home remedies are considered as the best because they do not cause any side effect. They are very cheap and easily accessible. The ingredients are available in the kitchen or can be bought from the nearest grocery shop. However, regular use of these remedies is necessary to get the effective and immediate results. Some of the famous and common remedies are given below:
1. Milk and honey pack:
This remedy not only reduces blemishes but also cause fairness of skin. Milk and honey act as natural exfoliate. Take some milk. Now add about two table spoons of honey to it. Mix both well. Apply this mixture on face, neck and hands. Massage in circulation for 15-20 minutes. Allow the mask to dry and rinse off with cold water.
2. Almond and milk face mask:
Soak about 4-5 almonds in water overnight. Grind them in the morning to make paste of it. Now add milk to the paste. Apply the pack on face, neck and other effected areas. Leave the mask for 20-30 minutes so that it can dry. Rinse it off with cold water. Almonds are a rich source of Vitamin E and are highly useful in any kind of skin disorder. Taking two to three almonds daily help one to get rid of any sort of pigmentation. Intake of almonds is good for brain also.
3. Aloe Vera treatment:
Aloe Vera is a miracle plant. It has been useful remedy in treating all types of disorders. So many people grow it in their home gardens. Aloe era gels are also available as herbal products in cosmetic shops. For extracting aloe Vera gel at home, take its leave. Cut it from the middle. Gel is present inside the leaf. Pour gel into a bottle. Aloe Vera gel can be directly applied on the dark spots. It can also be mixed with rose-water.
The mask should be kept on the skin for 15 to 20 minutes so that it can dry. Rinse it off with lukewarm water. Aloe Vera has certain polysaccharides which lightens the spots. Aloe Vera exfoliates the dead skin and new skin appears on the face. Aloe Vera face pack also refreshes the skin in hot, dry summer days. One can also apply pack half an hour before sleeping at night and rinse off in the morning with cold water to get the best results.
4. Oatmeal pack:
Make a powder of the pack of oatmeal. Keep it in the bottle for further use also. Take about two tea spoons of oatmeal, add milk to it. Mix both ingredients and make smooth pack. Now add honey. Apply this face pack on face and other areas containing dark spots. Keep it for 15 minutes to make it dry. Wash it off with cold water. It lightens the spots and makes the skin fairer.
5. Sandalwood pack:
Take some sandal wood powder. Add some turmeric powder and milk to it. Apply it on the affected areas of the face. Keep the pack for 15 minutes. Rinse it off with cold water when it dries up. This remedy is effective in reducing blemishes, dark spots and freckles.
6. Potatoes:
Potatoes are very useful in curing hyperpigmentation. Take a potato. Cut into many slices. Now rub a slice on the dark circles below eyes as well as on pigmented areas. This is very common remedy in India.
7. Lemon:
Lemon is a natural bleach so it is a good home remedy for hyperpigmentation. Take a lemon. Squeeze its juice. Mix this juice with one or two table spoons of honey. Apply it on the face. Leave it for some time so that it can dries up. Now rinse it off with lukewarm water. A person having irritation with lemon or sensitive skin should not follow this remedy or add gram floor to the face pack before applying to reduce the lemon effect. Lemon also clears the complexion and good for oily skin.
8. Cucumber:
This is very common remedy. Take about one table-spoon of honey and one table-spoon of lemon juice. Mix all the ingredients well. Apply the pack on face and other effected areas. Leave it for 15 minutes so that it can dry. Rinse it off with cold water. This is a useful remedy for dark spots and circles.
9. Red onion:
Take an onion. Remove the outer skin of the onion. Take a slice of onion. Rub it on the dark spots, blemishes freckles, dark circles and pigmented areas o face. Keep it as such for ten minutes. Wash it off with cold water. This is also an effective remedy.
10. Papaya:
Peel a papaya. Take some pieces of it. Mash them to make a paste of it. Apply the mask on the affected areas. This remedy will smoother the skin as well as fade away the blemishes.
11. Tomato:
Take some tomato juice, oatmeal powder and yogurt. Mix the both and make a paste. Apply it on the patches. Leave it as such till it dries up. Now rinse it off with water. This homemade treatment fades away blemishes and dark spots as well as leaves a glow on the face.
12. Radish seeds:
Take some seeds of radish. These can be bought from market. Make powder of the white seeds by grinding them. Add two tea spoons of vinegar. Apply it on the patches. Let the mask dry. Rinse it off with water. Apply this remedy daily to ward off freckles and dark spots.
Conclusion: Hyperpigmentation can be cured. But one needs the determination of after the remedies on regular basis. Sunscreen must not be forgotten to apply before going out in sun. Sunscreen should be applied about thirty minutes before leaving home because it takes that much time to get penetrating into the skin and forming a shield on the face.
