Uneven skin coloration and the appearance of colored spots or freckles on it are called pigmentation. Melanin is a brown pigment responsible for providing color to the skin. UV exposure tends to increase melanin production in our bodies. Many environmental factors also cause an increase or decrease in melanin production. There are two types of pigmentation known. They are Hyper Pigmentation and Hypo pigmentation.

Hyperpigmentation: Any elevation in the production of melanin pigment is called Hyperpigmentation. This results in dark brown or black spots and freckles on the face and other areas of the body. This condition is also known as melasma.

Hypopigmentation: When the production of melanin is reduced below the normal or required amounts, this is called hypopigmentation. In this case, patches or spots lighter than normal skin appear on the face and other parts of the body. This condition is also called vitiligo.

Case of Hyperpigmentation:- There are many reasons for Hyperpigmentation. Some of them are given below:-

1 – Heat: – Heat is the leading environmental factor that causes Hyperpigmentation. Exposure to heat disturbs the melanin-producing cells, causing dark spots and freckles. Any radiation, maybe ultraviolet or thermal radiation, affects the melanocytes and results in Hyper Pigmentation on the face and other body parts.

2—Disease: Some diseases cause Hyperpigmentation, like Jaundice and Cyanosis, which causes skin discoloration. Jaundice results in a swinging yellow hue, while cyanosis makes the skin look blue.

3- Injury: – Any injury and wounds also result in Hyperpigmentation. Severe injury in any part of the body results in marks or scans that remain for even. Sometimes, these scans or spots become dark with time. Sometimes, wounds heal, but still, there is slight inflammation left. This inflammation portion can result in pigmentation in a later stage.

4- Acne and pimples: – Some people have acne on their face. If these are touched frequently, they become permanent spots, sometimes acne, and healed, but still, spots remain behind. These spots or scans become dark with time.

5-Emotional disturbance: – Extreme emotional stress and tension also result in an imbalance in the production of melanin cells. This imbalance results in Hyperpigmentation.

There are many remedies available for the treatment of Hyper Pigmentation. Laser treatment and bleaching creams can cause Hyper Pigmentation. However, laser treatment is costly and sometimes causes negative results. Bleaching creams contain certain harmful chemicals that are dangerous to the skin. Homemade remedies have been considered the best for treating Hyperpigmentation. They do not cause any side effects and we are cheap and can be available in our kitchen.

Lemon Treatment: Lemon is considered the best home remedy for treating blemishes, dark spots, and freckles. It is very effective because lemon is a natural bleach.

1 Lemon and Honey: – Take a lemon, cut it, and squeeze out its juice. Now mix this juice with two spoons of honey. Apply this mask on the face well. Rinse off with water after 20 minutes. Those with sensitive skin should avoid this remedy because lemon juice irritates sensitive skin.

2 Lemon juice and turmeric powder: Take a lemon and squeeze out its juice. Mix about a teaspoon of turmeric with it. Apply this mask to the dark spots and blemishes for about 15 minutes, then wash it off with water. This remedy must not be used after immediate exposure to the sun. One should use this pack at night to get the best results.

3 Cucumber and Lemon treatment: Many summer vegetables have a cooling effect and reduce blemishes. One is cucumber juice, which helps reduce skin pigmentation and fade freckles and blemishes. Cucumber slices bring a cooling effect to the eyes and face. Take one tea spoon of cucumber juice, Add one tea spoon of each honey and lemon juice mix well. Apply this paste evenly on your face or the blemishes. Lemon helps to fade and exfoliate the skin. All the treatments should be done regularly to get positive results.

4 Direct treatment of lemon: Lemon juice or lemon slices can be applied to the blemishes, dark spots, or freckles. Soak a cotton ball in lemon juice and use it on the skin. One can also mix lemon juice with water to make it a mild solution for sensitive skin. After applying, keep the skin as such for several minutes or half an hour. If the skin is rinsed off with water, it can cause dryness, so moisturizer is needed to be applied. A person using lemon treatment should apply sunscreen before leaving the home because the skin can become susceptible to sun damage.

5 Mask of lemon and other fruits: To increase the effectiveness of lemon on Hyperpigmentation, it should be used with other fruits. Some citrus fruits are lemon and grapefruit. Other fruits can also be included, like Apples and raspberries, to create natural melon treatments. They not only reduce blemishes and pigmentation but also lighten the skin as they consist of antioxidants and enzymes.

6 Lemon and Yogurt: Take one lemon and squeeze its juice. Add yogurt, almond oil, milk powder, and oleo vera in the required quantities. Make a face pack of all the products. Apply the mask to your face. This remedy is effective even for sensitive skin, and one can keep the mask on the face for a longer time. Honey, almond oil, milk powder, and oleo vera hydrate and soothe the skin, while yogurt causes a bleaching effect.

7 Lemon and Papaya mask for sensitive skin: Lemon and papaya treatment effectively reduces Hyperpigmentation and wrinkles. Papaya is also effective in brightening the complexion because it contains an enzyme called pectin, which makes the skin fairer. Take a papaya cut into two ….. Take one pack and mask it to make a paste of it. Add a cup of yogurt, ¼ cup of lemon juice, and two tablespoons of honey. Use the mask on your face. Let the mask on your skin for 15 minutes till it soaks. Then rinse it off with lukewarm water. This remedy is very effective on sensitive skin because yogurt and package will not allow irritation. Yogurt works as a natural bleaching agent along with lemon; yogurt also spreads the growth of new cells. Papaya works by reducing spots.

8 Lemon and apple mask: This remedy is suitable for treating dark spots and wrinkles. It can be used on the skin; take an apple and make its piece in a food processor. Now add two tablespoons of fresh lemon. Apply the mask for 20 minutes. Rinse it off with warm water, and use this mask twice weekly. Apple contains phloretin, a powerful antioxidant vitamin C extracted from lemon. Phloretin penetrates deep into the skin, reducing and fading dark spots and blemishes. This remedy is also effective in treating melanoma and other skin cancers.

9 Lemon and green tea:- Take ¼ cup of fresh lemon juice, a green tea bag, and 1 cup of boiling water. Add lemon juice to the boiling water. Now, put the tea bag into the bowl. Remove the tea bag after 10 minutes. Apply the mixture on the face with a cotton ball. Do not rinse. This is best for oily skin along with lemon masks a person should apply a good sunscreen looking on the face and other parts which are usually exposed to the UV rays of sun. Sunscreen of SPF 30 to SPF 50 can be used by people suffering from Hyper Pigmentation because otherwise, remedies will not be effective.

Conclusion: Pigmentation can be treated best with lemon juice. It contains vitamin C, which reduces dark spots and uneven skin tone and brightens the skin. Vitamin C helps neutralize free radicals in the body and prevent damage to the skin. Lemons are naturally antiseptic. This prevents acne and infection. It also sloughs off dead skin cells and encourages cell turnover. It also promotes the growth of new skin. Lemon can be used not only as a drink but also as a remedy. It is very available in the market as lemon juice or as fruit. It is very cheap and has almost no cost, but it is very effective as a cooling reagent and lightens dark spots and blemishes.
